Answering Your Therapy Questions
What do you specialize in?
At Monica Kristen Therapy, I specialize in working with women and girls with anxiety, and trauma. I have over 10 years experience working with teens in managing emotions around monumental firsts in their lives. Beyond that I also offer EMDR to teens and adult women who have decided to address memories or events from that past, without relying on traditional talk therapy.
Is therapy right for me?
Therapy is designed to provide a safe space for self-exploration and emotional support. It offers tools to manage stress, improve relationships, and develop healthier coping strategies. Therapy also promotes self-awareness, boosts confidence, and supports lasting positive changes.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), uses bilateral stimulation (like eye movement) to help process “stuck” memories. Based on the Adaptive Information Processing model, it is a non-invasive therapy that effectively resolves traumatic memories without retraumatizing clients. EMDR is clinically proven to be highly effective, with clients reporting better outcomes and less pain than other modalities.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people manage mental health issues by identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors, allowing them to respond to challenging situations in a more effective way; it focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions, teaching individuals coping strategies to address their problems.
How much are individual therapy sessions?
Each session is $185 for approximately 50 minutes, your initial consultation is free. I reserve a portion of my client spots for those who wish to have a sliding scale applied, to determine their fee.
How soon can we meet?
Once you’ve contacted me we’ll set up an initial free consultation to ensure that we are a good fit. At that time we can set up our first appointment.
